a new era
In Kaohsiung, Taiwan, both close cooperation and smooth communication made it possible to succeed. The port expansion project was completed eight months ahead of schedule and right on budget. Trailing suction hopper dredgers Vox Máxima, Volvox Terranova and Rotterdam reclaimed almost 250 hectares of new land, ready for use.
Taiwan International Ports Corporation:
‘We look back at a close and successful cooperation with Van Oord. The new port area will accommodate many terminals and wharves, some capable of handling container ships of up to 22,000 TEU. That will allow us to meet not only the current but also the future needs of the global shipping industry. Increasing capacity in this way will certainly benefit Taiwan’s economic growth.’
The execution of port expansion project in Kaohsiung has been acknowledged by the Public Construction Commission of the Taiwanese Government. The third prize of the 17th Public Construction Golden Quality Award of Excellence was awarded to the project.
